Do You Hear What I Hear?

Pop-open a thesaurus and you’ll find dozens of synonyms for the word hearing; including the very common word: listening. This is old, since when it comes to strategic sales performance, these two words are often the difference between success and failure.

Hearing is involuntary; we can close our eyes, our mouths, put our hands in our pockets, and pretty much go into self-induced sensory deprivation mode… all except for hearing. Whether by evolutionary curiosity or grand design, we can’t close our ears.

However, listening is voluntary. It is active; not passive. It is giving your attention to what the speaker is saying. It is understanding both words, and the intend behind the words; because quite often, words are limited and confining.

Editor's Take

A Toast for the New Year

Whatever 2006 had given you it is already history. It may have given you memories you would like to cherish and be proud about or perhaps bury it and move on, one thing for sure it left something that would usher you to see the new year with a different perspective.

Like a mom who labored in pain to give birth to her offspring—the delight it brings is incomparable and incomprehensible!

For business people, 2007 is another year to look forward to whether it would be bright or gloomy. The one constant is change and as someone who too the risk of getting into a particular venture—the attitude of being open should remain, too.

No matter one road may look bumpy ahead this should not stop a businessperson to continue. If there is the need to re-invent, then why not take the chance? After all, life is full of chances.

Chances are always presented in order for us, for businesses, for an organization to grow and not to stagnate.

Together with the rest of the Filipino small and medium enterprises (SMEs), here is my toast for the New Year; never say never, rather be better in everything you do or settle for something greater. My prayer is that 2007 would be a prosperous year for us all.
