“How are we going to establish a name and build credibility in an event management industry?” this was the question that the sisters Gen and Geraldine Uy thought of when they envisioned of putting up an events planning business.

In the year 2000, according to Geraldine Uy, putting up an events management business was not that easy. The venture was a total new concept that time in our society and they still lack experience and knowledge about managing events even if her sister Gen just finished her Masters Degree in Events Management.

Editor's Take

Getting Stronger

October 07, 2007, the country was in frenzy because of the boxing match between our very own Pambansang Kamao, Manny Pacquiao and the retiring Antonio Barrera.

It was even reported that during this period, traffic was less on the roads, and most of the people are in their homes glued to their TV sets.  Even in malls and most establishments where the employees were lucky to have TV sets on their work places, were also tuned in on the same channel.  Our very own Armed Forces based in Mindanao had to call a truce with the rebels, just so not to miss this fight.

Of course like all Filipinos wished, hoped for and expected, Manny won the fight.  Though it took him 12 rounds to finish it off, and did not knock-out Barrera.

We can liken our economy to Manny’s current and past fights. That, even how beaten our economy had been due to global recession, political bickering, rallies, endless impeachment attempts on our President, we can now see its improvement. Our peso against the dollar is getting stronger; our exports are a lot better compared to the same quarters of last year. And improvements on the social services of the government to the people are getting in place.

On top of this, the active participation of the Small and Medium Enterprises in our economy has become a factor that cannot be overlooked.  In the past, these SMEs were only in the backyard, and most of them are not even paying any taxes.  Now, their presence can be signifacantly felt, and their contributions to the economy is greatly considered.

And like the boxing matches of our Pambansang Kamao, our economy will soon get its gold, if we, like what we are doing with Manny Pacquiao, will keep on cheering, rooting and participating in its improvement and progress.
