The must read book for budding entrepreneurs

“Learn from others’ mistakes”, are quotes we often hear from our elders.  This may be true once we read the book put out in the market by 15 brave entrepreneurs who made into writing the pains they have encountered, the trials and errors in starting their own businesses.

Yes, it will surely guide and help you to avoid committing the same mistakes that others did ahead of you, once you’ve read the book Introduction to Entrepreneurship.

Southeast Asia’s SMBs lure technology giants

HO CHI MINH CITY—The robust performance of small and medium businesses (SMBs) in Southeast Asia is attracting technology megaliths like Hewlett-Packard (HP), which launched several products and solutions here that will also be introduced in other countries in the region next month.

“The positive environment and slew of investments going and coming from SMBs are helping us exceed expectations,” said Adrian Koch, the senior vice president for HP’s personal systems group operations in the Asia-Pacific and Japan.

Editor's Take

Enterprise and Opportunity

Economist Mahar Mangahas got it right when he pointed out that family income is the superior measure for growth in society. Without contesting the official statistics, he points out in a recent column that as gross national product continued to increase, real family incomes have not been marching in step.  In fact, real family incomes were lower in 2006 than when the figures for 2003.  One indicator is the greater share that Filipino families devoted for food, following the empirical principle that as incomes fall, the share for this expenditure rises.

We welcome the recent economic gains, but this space would be irresponsible to fuel illusions that growth is everything. In our advocacy of a development strategy anchored on the flourishing of Small and Medium Enterprises, we take as our starting point the need for greater economic participation and opportunities to enable Filipino families to enjoy a better quality of life.

A lot certainly needs to be done. This space affirms that our social responsibility as entrepreneurs and SME marketers is to do well in our business in order to build the solid foundation of "doing good" for society.  The sooner the entrepreneurs work at sweeping away the institutional and cultural obstacles that prevent us from shaping a country in which Filipino families have economic and social opportunities within reach, the better.

Like the day that it is, we can also ask if it is a trick or treat for our economy?
