SME in Focus Influenza worries in the PhilippinesWhen the Philippines got hit with Influenza A (H1N1) meaning that this is a type A influenza, which has hemaglutinin type 1 (H1) and neuraminidase type 1 (N1)—it alarmed everyone. As of Wednesday, June 17, there were already 311 confirmed H1N1 cases. Influenza A (H1N1) is a new strain of human influenza first found in North America in April 2009. Though this is a serious threat to human health, but contrary to speculations and recent reports, the good news is, it has not been found in pigs as it was previously referred to as swine flu. But, let us face it—it scares foreigners to come and visit the country and vice versa. It would suffice to say that influenza A(H1N1) scares away probable progress in the economy, too!
