SME in Focus

Inspiring and capability building for the entrepreneurs

Nowadays, people are encouraged by government and civil society to go into business to solve the poverty problem in the country.

Of course, this is easier said than done because going into business is not an easy task. It requires skill, patience, focus and sometimes luck to succeed.

Government has a big role to play. As the main agent to provide an enabling climate for entrepreneurship especially in the grassroots level or the small-medium enterprises (SMEs) level, government should have a clear vision on how to assist the entrepreneurs.

It can mobilize all concerned agencies to help in financing, mentoring and providing technology in building the business capabilities of aspiring entrepreneurs. To achieve this objective, government must develop synergy to ensure there is focus on the program. For instance, the Department of Science and Technology can be main source of commercial technologies for the aspiring entrepreneurs in jumpstarting their business.

The interest shown by the private sector is a very much welcome development because it has a wealth of experience in guiding the entrepreneurs By applying the big brother concept of mentoring the entrepreneurs until they can stand on their own, it is definite that more and more people will be inspired to become entrepreneurs not only to help uplift their lives but also the welfare of the country.

Developing a critical mass of entrepreneurs can be considered a long, long march to development. As the saying goes “the journey of thousand miles begins with a single step”. Let us not delay.

Real Fresh Dairy Farms Inc: Developing fresh milk as a staple food for Filipinos

Established in July 2007, Real Fresh Dairy Farms Inc (RFDFI) has consistently delivered quality Holly’s Really Farm Fresh Milk and dairy products to its customers.

This is guided by its vision of “developing fresh milk as a natural staple food for the country, a land flowing with milk and good health and to develop the Filipinos’ preference for fresh milk as “the most nearly perfect food.”

To attain the objective, RFDFI is backed up its full-time veterinarians and seasoned technical consultants from University of the Philippines-Los Baños.

RFDFI also gives the proper feeding requirements to its cows complemented by the proper amount and type of water to ensure they will produce quality milk. Quality is assured as more than 50 percent of the selling price of the raw milk at farm gate prices are allotted for vitamin supplements, feed, among others.

Cleanliness is another important aspect of the operations of RFDFI. The highly-trained milking parlor attendants are qualified to use the state-of-the art equipment to ensure the high quality of the raw milk.

RFDFI is also using the specially-bred Holstein-Sahiwal cows because they’re the most superior breed that is ideal for the local conditions.
