Cutting the red tape and energizing the rural areas
The International Finance Corp (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank, recently revealed
that it is planning to invest $900 million until the fiscal year 2012. The objective of the assistance is to increase rural incomes and help in improving governance in the Philippines.
Aside from infrastructure, finance, agribusiness, mining and oil and gas, the investment also covers the ongoing project of the IFC with the League of Cities of the Philippines called Standardization for Business Registration and Permit Process Project. This aims to standardize all business registration and payment processes. IFC provided an initial funding of P16 million to cover projects in Manila, Quezon City, Mandaluyong and Marikina.
For sure, the project is worth supporting. By providing all Philippine cities with a standard form, standard procedures, one-time assessment and one-time payment schemes, first-time entrepreneurs will have an easier time because this can cut down the procedures to only seven from the 15 steps and reduce the time of opening a business to a maximum of 10 days. This is a good development for entrepreneurs specially the ones belonging to the SME sector. Moreover, this will energize the countryside as more rural folks will have more options to improve their lives.

M.F. Sandoval Trading: Helping the bangus reach global status
There is no doubt that bangus (milkfish) is a delicious fish. However, the challenge in eating the bangus is the numerous fishbones. This problem when Mario Sandoval, a former employee of the British-American pharmaceutical company Smithkline Beecham, decided to put up M.F. Sandoval Trading with an initial investment of P20,000.
By introducing deboned marinated and smoked bangus into the market, eating bangus became more enjoyable. M.F Sandoval Trading followed up the success by introducing bangus-based products such as Bonuan boneless bangus relleno, prime cut belly, embutido, longganisa, lumpia, nuggets, kilawen, croquettes, chicharon and fillet, among others.
But Mr. Sandoval is not resting on his laurels. He plans to make a difference in society by generating employment for the out-of-school youth and additional income to its business partners.
More importantly, M.F. Sandoval Trading under the leadership of Mr. Sandoval plans to bring global recognition to Bonuan boneless bangus to make the Philippines the “milkfist capital of the world” by producing high quality and healthy products which will show the excellence of the Filipinos.
