SME in Focus Going beyond Microinsurance
Recently, the Department of Finance (DOF) launched a microinsurance program to attract the working and entrepreneurial poor to avail of microinsurance products. Based on the DOF assumption that all beneficiaries of state-administered microinsurance programs are covered, the DOF expects to raise some P2.5 billion worth of premiums from the sale of just one microinsurance product.

Undeniably, the Philippines ranks among the countries with the lowest insurance coverage, a situation attributed to the low earning capacity of the population.
Three organizations namely Planters Development Bank (PDB) SME Solutions International Finance Corporation (IFC) and IBM Philippines, joined forces on May 28 in launching the enhanced version of the SME Toolkit at the Shangri-La Hotel , as part of its advocacy to empower the small to medium enterprises (SMEs) towards greater competitiveness in the local and especially the global market.
Zenaida Gonzales-Basan really had the passion for cooking. With more or less than P5,000 working capital, Mrs. Basan decided to open Nadies Chicken House in Tupi, South Cotabato in 1976 to pursue her passion for cooking. For a start, Nadies offered batchoy, merienda and chicken barbecue. Among the three, the chicken barbecue became the hottest item among the clients.
